The Port of Walsoorden is located in the Municipality of Hulst and lies on the Scheldt. The port consists of two harbor basins. In the western basin of the port, there is capacity for around 30 smaller boats. It also serves as a landing port for a fishing boat and a security vessel for commercial shipping in the Scheldt.

There is also a shipyard and a repair yard, both for yachts. The eastern basin is used for industrial and agricultural products. The port is a refuge for the Scheldt and has an important regional function for the waterfont users, especially for the concrete plant and the malting industry. Needless to say is that the port is important to the yards.

Since the disappearance of the ferries from Walsoorden in 1943, the port is mainly used for industrial purposes, yacht building and restoration, as well as for yachting and the fishing industry. The port and access channel are dredged twice a year and are in good condition. However, the quays of the port are in bad condition, especially in the western part of the port. For maintenance, in the coming years additional investments are required.

The Municipality of Hulst is currently considering the future of the Port of Walsoorden. There is an operating deficit and additional investments for maintenance are required.

With the development of the nearby Port of Perkpolder into a marina, a feasibility study is to be executed for the Port of Walsoorden. Considering the socio-economic situation of the northern part of the municipality of Hulst, the employment should not decrease as a consequence of the future regeneration. With the results of the study, the Municipality can make a decision for the future development of the Port of Walsoorden.
