To upgrade the Grand Large Port defence system against the swell, Syndicat Mixte Dunkerque Neptune will conduct a feasibility study on the coastal defence for the port entry. Also a study on the Grand Large port protection Port and improvement of accessibility.
This study previously approaches the protection of Grand Large Port because it is urgent to reinforce the current structure that is under sized. In a second time, it will extend the reflection by analyzing the technical and financial feasibility, for Dunkirk Greater Council, of a more important protection in order to shelter a larger harbour area. The aim is to reassure the marina and to increase the amount of water areas which could be exploited.
The Improvement of the reception at the port with priority being given to the building of a new harbour office and the renovation of the pontoons.
The objective is to improve the welcome and the services and carry the marina at the level of service of the neighbouring harbours. The Grand Large Port was built in 1992 and requires ongoing renewal (Pontoon, cathodic protections, installation of a pump for waste waters from the ships and bring petrol station up to the required standards to reduce its currents pollution level). The ports ability will be substantially improved to welcome all yachtsmen who currently visit it as its current facilities are inadequate at the moment.
The objective is to make those reinforcement measures publicly accessible by investing in an attractive public space with a maritime appearance. In order to achieve this there will be investments in an 800 metre long platform which will create an attractive walking route. Two observation posts will be incorporated and the whole walkway will be finished with attractive lighting and street furniture. The result is a Maritime Balcony with wonderful views for people passing by in the summer.
The regeneration of wasteland areas at the port with the development of Môle 1 and the creation of a marina on the outskirts of the town
The Syndicat Mixte Dunkerque Neptune has launched a feasibility study on the creation of a new marina at the Môle 1 area, which is located close the town centre and where new buildings dedicated to culture and training will soon be completed. Currently, this area is port wasteland, between harbours and urban spaces
