Welcome to the website of the Transcoast Project
The Transcoast Project is a cooperation initiative of 12 partners and regional authorities from France, the UK, Flanders and the Netherlands working together to transform their neglected port and maritime areas and regenerate them to provide marinas and facilities for maritime leisure and tourism.
The project is funded through the Interreg IVA 2Seas Programme and its main aim is to strengthen the economic viability of the coastal regions in the 2Seas area through the sharing of experience and knowledge between partners.
Working together to implement the project actions, the partners aim to transform derelict and substandard port areas into vibrant and prosperous places, at the same time engaging local communities and involving them in these exciting new projects.

The Transcoast Project will focus its attention of addressing three key areas:
Activity 1 targets the physical regeneration of port areas in decline to once again integrate them into the local territorial structure and restore and boost their economic vitality.
Activity 2 will address the challenges faced in relation to port safety in the transformation of former commercial ports into areas used for maritime leisure activities. In ports built to accommodate large vessels, conditions on the water and adjacent quays are often unsafe for small and vulnerable leisure boats.
Activity 3 will focus on the importance of community engagement in the revitalisation of harbour areas. To fully integrate transformed ports in local society it is essential to involve local and regional communities as the end-users of the transformed areas, to encourage people to use these newly regenerated areas and to benefit from these areas in terms of employment, recreation and overall quality of life.
The outcomes and challenges of these three specific areas will be addressed by Joint Management Teams and more information can be found on each of these in the JMT pages of this site. More details of the projects each partner will be carrying out can be found on the individual Partner pages.
Over the coming months this site will be updated with the progress of the project and findings of the partners as they complete their tasks with the intention that this site will build into a useful compendium of advice, experience and tools that will be useful to other organisation considering similar projects. There is a wealth of information on these pages but if you have a question that is not answered here or feel that the Transcoast Project could offer advice on a similar project you are planning then please contact us and we will be happy to share our experiences with you.
